This session will explore the benefits of using 3-option multiple-choice (MC) items and explain how to convert an item bank with 4-option MC (MC4) items to 3-option MC (MC3) items without re-pretesting all of the items in the bank. The goals of this session are: 1. Describe when it is appropriate and beneficial to use MC3 items. 2. Explain how to convert MC4 items to MC3 items. 3. Explain how to psychometrically convert an item bank with MC4 items to MC3 items without re-pretesting all items. The three presenters represent a testing organization that has gone through the MC4 to MC3 conversion process and two psychometricians who performed the conversion. The Assistant Vice President of Examination from the testing organization will share why her organization went through the conversion and how it has helped the program. The psychometricians will discuss, at a non-technical level, appropriate use and benefits of MC3 items and the psychometric results from the MC4 to MC3 conversion study.
